All About Jambavantha, The Immortal Bear Of Ramayana

1. Jambavantha is also known as Jamvanta, Jambavan, Jambavant, and Jambuvan. He is believed to be immortal and is the son of Brahma. He is also a Sloth Bear and the King of all bears.
2.Jambavana was the king of the Himalaya. He incarnated as a Bear to serve Lord Rama (Incarnation of the Supreme God, Vishnu).
3. He is also known as Raksharaj (King of Rakshas). Rakshas were earlier described as similar to the Vanaras, but the later versions of Ramayana portray Rakshas as Bears.
4.Jambavantha is believed to have lived in Ratlam Tehsil of Madhya Pradesh. It is known as Jambavan Nagari.
5.During the churning of the ocean for Amrit, Jambavantha was also present. He is supposed to have circled Vamana (An avatar of Vishnu) 7-times when he was acquiring the 3-worlds from Mahabali.
6.Lord Rama blessed Jambavantha that he would have a long-life, stay handsome and would have the strength of 10 million lions.
7.In Ramayana, Jambavan helped Rama to find his wife, Sita. He was instrumental in making Hanumana realize his immense capabilities. He encouraged him to fly across the ocean to search for Sita in Lanka.
8.In Mahabharata, Jambavan killed a lion. The lion acquired a gem called Sayamantaka from Prasena after killing him. Krishna was suspected for this killing and the jewel.
9.Jambavan tracked the steps of Prasena until he reached a cave where He learned that Prasena was killed by a lion. Jambvantha then killed the Lion.
10. After 18-days Jambavana recognized Krishna as an avatar of Vishnu. He gave Krishna the gem and also presented Him to his daughter, Jambavanti, who then became one of the wives of Krishna.
11.Jambavantha is one of the 8 Chiranjeevi. He is known for His intelligence and good knowledge of running the kingdom.
