11 Bone-Breaking facts about Bones!

It is perhaps rightly said that “What is the human body but flesh and bones?”
We (adults) have 206-rigid white rods joined together to move one human-frame, and today, we will be exploring interesting facts about human bones!
1. The rigid organs which constitute a part of the skeletal system are called bones.

2. The branch of zoology that deals with the study of bones are called Osteology.

3. Osteoblasts and Osteocytes (or the bone cells) are the cells that constitute to form the hard yet connective bone tissue.

4. The outer coat of bone is made up of calcium, whereas the inner part is filled with the spongy tissue called the bone marrow. Bone Marrow is a reservoir of stem cells.

5. The largest bone in the human body is the femur, also called the thigh bone, whereas the smallest bone is the stapes. It is present in the middle ear.

6. The bones are made of a unique fibre called the collagen fibre, which provides flexibility.

7. Since our teeth lack the collagen fibre but possess calcium, they are also considered as a modified bone.

Lastly, if you do not know already, there are 206 bones in the body of an adult human, whereas babies are born with more than 300 bones. The other 100 and more bones fuse to form larger ones and remain so till we die.
We mean, it is amusing how even something as hard as bones blends in to grow bigger and over the period our bodies become stiff, rough and erect?
