Bellows Cameras: The yogi camera!

Bellows camera

Do you know that friend of yours who eats, sleeps and breathes yoga? Well, there’s a camera that’s more flexible. Today we are going to talk about the Bellows Cameras. Though bellow is a flexible instrument used to draw in and out the air, a similar-looking device is added to a camera! Keep scrolling to know more!

1) Bellows Cameras are known as Folding Cameras.

2) The name comes from the box of pleated material forming the light-tight seal between the lens and the film. This type of bellows may be fixed to any length, provided that the length of its guide rails will allow it.

3) Bellows Cameras were invented to take the cameras outside and keep them practically small.

4) The bellows give excellent shrinkage minimising the space. The camera of two boxes slides into one.

5) It helped in incorporating the rise and fall of the lens. Optional bellows can extend the lens’ capabilities on a camera with interchangeable lenses.

6) The bellows cameras evolved very early in the development, of the cameras even today, new ones are being invented!  There are thousand different models now.

7) A pleated cloth or leather bellows collapses as the camera closes.  Most bellows cameras have a baseboard to which the front lensboard is attached by some means.

8) there are some exceptions like scissor strut-type or plain strut-type.

9) They have a way to change the focus by changing the distance between the lensboard and the film or by moving the lens independently. By using belts, you can correct distortion in a photograph and prevent verticals from converging or diverging.

Bellows Cameras or Folding Cameras are fun and are very useful. Check out more on such fascinating topics by reading on!
